Description
The northernmost dry point in Minnesota is somewhat
arbitrary because the land merges with the Lake of the Woods very gradually - woods to tall grasses to reeds to water lilies to water.
During our visit the lake was higher than usual so we took the northernmost reeds to be the N point in Minnesota. Slightly to the south,
usually on dry land, is the only boundary monument in the area. This is the 1908 Treaty monument shown in Boundaries of the United State and
the Several States. We were actually able to paddle the kayak through reeds and grass to with 200 meters of the monument. Gregg decided to
sacrifice his boots for a close-up photograph.
